Chapter 171 Searching
Chapter 171 Searching
At this moment, he is constantly trying to learn this magic.
His brow furrowed, for he discovered that learning this magic was far more complex than he had imagined.
He could feel his magic connected to the fluctuations of another world, but he couldn't be sure if the other side was really elves, let alone how to communicate with them.
He tried to sense and touch that unknown connection with his heart, but only silence answered him.
Rhine felt powerless; he didn't know whether he should continue trying or seek other methods.
However, a voice deep inside him told him not to give up, that the 10 rubles might be waiting for rescue.
Rhine closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down.
He prayed silently in his heart; his voice, though weak, was full of sincerity and longing:
"My Lord Elf, I pray to you from a corner of this world. I am an ordinary magician with limited power, but I have a heart that wants to help others."
I need your help; I need your guidance to find that lost cat.
I don't know how to communicate with you or how to express my gratitude, but I sincerely request your assistance.
If you can hear me, please contact me and tell me what to do. I'm willing to pay any price to help you.
Rhine was filled with piety, and he kept chanting incantations, maintaining a delicate connection with the elven world.
This connection doesn't resemble an equal dialogue; it's more like him humbly begging for the elves' mercy.
He felt both nervous and expectant, unsure whether his sincerity would be reciprocated.
Just as Rhine was about to lose confidence, he suddenly felt a faint fluctuation coming from the other end of the magical connection.
His heart raced, the air before him began to distort, and a faint light split open from the void, from which a creature flew out, its wings fluttering gently in front of Rhine.
Rhine stared dumbfounded at the elf who had suddenly appeared before him. His worldview seemed to have been turned upside down, and a flood of doubts surged through his mind.
Was this really the fairy butterfly he had summoned? He remembered the description in the magic book as a colorful butterfly, but the creature in front of him was black, and its shape didn't look like a butterfly at all; it looked more like a small bat.
Its wings are not the thin, transparent membrane wings of a butterfly, but have a hard texture, like leather.
Its eyes gleamed with a mysterious light, as if they could see into people's hearts. Rhine was stunned; he didn't know whether he should feel fear or astonishment.
Reaching out cautiously, Rhine tried to touch the mysterious creature. It didn't flinch, but instead quietly settled on his fingers.
He could sense the magical fluctuations emanating from it, a power he had never felt before, both ancient and powerful.
Rhine decided to stop worrying about the elf's appearance and focus on whether its abilities could help him complete his mission.
He put away the spellbook, intending to borrow it to take home for further study. He realized that mastering different types of magic was crucial to becoming an omniscient and omnipotent magician, not just limited to combat magic.
With this mysterious black sprite in tow, Rhine arrived at the cat owner's home.
He explained his plan to his owner and borrowed the cat's used bowl. Rhine carefully placed the bowl in front of the elf, hoping it could track the cat by its sense of smell.
However, to Rhine's surprise, the elf did not seem interested in the cat bowl; it did not go over to sniff it, nor did it make any other move.
As Rhine looked at it, a question suddenly flashed through his mind: Did this bat-like sprite really have a sense of smell? He began to doubt whether this sprite could really help him find the cat.
However, Rhine's concerns soon proved to be unnecessary.
Although the black sprite didn't directly sniff the cat bowl, it seemed to have its own unique way of perceiving its target.
It began to flap its wings, emitting a subtle glow, and then flew off without hesitation, signaling Rhine to follow.
Rhine hurriedly followed the elf's guidance, traversing streets and alleys, turning and twisting until he finally arrived at the city's bustling downtown area.
The place was bustling with noise, the cries of vendors and the laughter of people rising and falling, a stark contrast to the expectations in Rhine's heart.
He looked around in confusion; this place didn't seem like a place where cats would hide.
However, when he looked up and his gaze fell on a figure not far away, a warm feeling welled up in Rhine's heart, and he was so moved that he almost shed tears.
Rhine's gaze was fixed on the cat in the arms of a girl not far ahead.
The cat's appearance matched the cat's features in his mind perfectly; he was almost certain that this was the cat he was looking for.
His heart was racing, both from the excitement of completing the mission and the nervousness of meeting the cat.
He slowly walked towards the girl, taking each step carefully, as if afraid of disturbing her.
As he walked up behind the girl, he gently patted her shoulder, intending to politely inquire about the cat. However, when the girl turned around, Rhine froze.
The girl who turned around had familiar features, and her surprised eyes made Rein recognize her instantly.
"Lise?" Rhine exclaimed in surprise, not expecting to run into his old classmate in this place.
"Rhine? What are you doing here?" Liz's face was filled with surprise, clearly not expecting to meet Rhine again in such a setting.
Rein smiled and pointed to the cat in Liz's arms, asking in a relaxed tone, "Who's that little guy in your arms?"
Liz glanced down at the cat, then looked up and replied, "Oh, I found it by the roadside. It looked all alone and like nobody wanted it, so I picked it up."
Rhine gently shook his head and smiled, saying, "This isn't an unwanted cat; I'm looking for it because of it. It's actually someone else's lost pet."
Liz's expression immediately showed shock, and a hint of astonishment flashed in her eyes. She clearly did not expect that this cat would have an owner.
She quickly recovered, nodded, and said somewhat dejectedly, "Oh, is that so? Okay then."
Her tone carried a hint of barely perceptible frustration, her emotions complex. It was partly because she realized the cat she had found wasn't homeless, and partly because she understood that Rhine's appearance wasn't for her, but for the cat.
Her mood shifted from surprise to disappointment in just a few minutes, leaving her feeling somewhat heavy-hearted.
