Chapter 111 Three Treasures Temple
Chapter 111 Three Treasures Temple
"What's wrong with the USB drive?" Ye Xinghe leaned closer to take a look and noticed a semi-transparent icon inside the folder. "What's this?"
"It's like a synchronization software. Any files you put on the USB drive will automatically sync to the other person's computer." Qiao Lin opened the software, then clicked the search settings button. "And it's hidden, and it's set to sync every minute."
"This is why it looks like a semi-transparent icon when plugged into my computer. On a regular computer, you won't see anything. Unless you check the USB drive's memory, it's very difficult to find such a file."
Qiao Lin removed the USB drive, examined it closely, and said, "This brand of USB drive is of very good quality. Did you buy a fake?"
“It’s not a fake. Someone deliberately designed it.” Ye Xinghe’s eyes were icy, revealing a ruthless aura. “A colleague gave it to me a few days ago.”
“I can set it so that the contents of the other person’s computer are also transferred to this USB drive,” Qiao Lin said, about to plug the USB drive back in.
Ye Xinghe reached out to stop her, "No need. She's definitely prepared. Since she wants my design, then let her have it."
Ye Xinghe found a previous final exam design, made some minor modifications, and then transferred it to a USB drive.
"Qiao Lin, I want to go to Sanbao Temple now. I need to find out what kind of place it is and what my grandmother and second uncle are doing."
"Miss, wait for me a moment." Qiao Lin returned to her room, took out a lipstick-sized scented candle from her suitcase, and handed it to Ye Xinghe.
"This is a spirit-guiding candle; it can detect spirits."
Ye Xinghe took it in her hand and examined it. The design was very similar to a lipstick, and the candle could be twisted out. It was clear that half of it had already been used. She leaned closer and smelled it. A strange fragrance filled her nostrils, the distinctive aroma of Southeast Asian spices.
The two changed into casual tourist clothes and drove to Sanbao Temple.
Ye Xinghe was also visiting this place for the first time. As soon as she got close, she saw incense smoke swirling above the temple and the sound of chanting Buddhist sutras filling the air.
The two had just stepped into the Buddhist temple gate when they were stopped by a monk.
“Esteemed guests, our temple does not receive outsiders.”
Qiao Lin, speaking with a strong regional accent, asked, "Why won't we be allowed in? Isn't this a temple? We've finally come all this way for a trip to the South, why can't we get in?"
The monk clasped his hands together and bowed slightly. “I hope you understand that our temple is not open to the public and does not accept incense offerings.”
Qiao Lin pointed upwards, "I see there's a lot of smoke and fire going on in here, there must be quite a few people, right? And the chanting is pretty loud, why won't you let me in?"
The monk stopped speaking, bowed again, and prepared to close the door.
Ye Xinghe stepped forward and blocked the gate. "My grandmother is a regular at this temple. She comes every day. Her name is Zhu Wenhua. She should be inside. Could you please make an exception and let us in to take a look?"
The monk paused for a moment, then asked the two to wait outside the door before closing it.
Ye Xinghe took out a spirit-guiding candle from her bag and was about to light it when the door was opened again.
Ye Mingqi came out from inside, carrying a suitcase, and froze when he saw Ye Xinghe and the other person.
"Hehe, what are you doing here?"
Ye Xinghe smiled sweetly, "Second Uncle, I was just about to ask you that! Didn't you go to Southeast Asia? You're back today?"
Ye Mingqi never expected to run into Ye Xinghe here, and for a moment he didn't know how to answer. Moreover, he hadn't told anyone he was coming back early; he had planned to go to another place later, and Ye Xinghe's sudden appearance had disrupted his plans.
Ye Xinghe didn't intend to make things difficult for him, and replied with a smile, "My friend came to Jiangyang for tourism, and I was thinking of bringing her here to have a look around, but they won't let us in. I just told the people inside that my grandma is inside, but they didn't know what they were doing and told us to wait here."
"What's so fun about this? Come on, your second uncle will take you to a place that young people like to go." Ye Mingqi said as he put his arm around Ye Xinghe and walked outside.
“My friend loves visiting temples. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have brought her here.” Ye Xinghe broke free and returned to the gate. “My grandma always comes to this temple, it must be very nice. But they wouldn’t let us in. How did you get in, Uncle?”
Ye Mingqi changed the subject, saying, "If you really want to see, then your second uncle will take you inside."
As he spoke, he pushed open the door and entered. Just then, the monk was about to open his door as well. The two looked at each other, their expressions extremely unnatural.
Ye Mingqi placed his suitcase at the door and asked the monk to keep it for him temporarily.
"This temple is not open to the public. Your grandmother is an old friend of the abbot, so she can come and go as she pleases. Ordinary people are not allowed to enter. Just stand here and look around, and don't wander around."
Ye Mingqi led the two to the center of the temple. The surroundings were extremely quiet; there were no tourists, not even a few extra monks. The chanting was clearly coming from the main hall, so why wasn't there a single person in sight?
What also puzzled Ye Xinghe was that temples usually had a strong smell of incense, even those that weren't particularly popular. Moreover, people generally felt very calm and peaceful when they visited a temple.
But for some reason, the smell here was very complex, mostly a combination of rotten and roasted meat, with a hint of incense. And from the moment Ye Xinghe entered, she felt a chill creeping up her spine.
Ye Xinghe looked up and saw thick gray smoke rising above a room in the northwest corner behind her.
"Second Uncle, what is that place?" Ye Xinghe pointed to the smoke coming from the northwest corner. "Why is there so much smoke?"
Ye Xingqi glanced back. "That's where the monks worship Buddha. We can't go there."
"Don't monks usually worship Buddha in the Dharma Hall? Why would they be in that corner?" Qiao Lin looked at the smoke in the northwest corner with a puzzled expression, as if he knew everything. "Usually, the northwest corner of a temple is a storeroom or a toilet. I see so much smoke coming from there, could it be that the storeroom is on fire?"
After saying that, Qiao Lin was about to run to the backyard.
Ye Mingqi quickly stopped her, "It's not a fire. The monks are probably burning the fallen leaves in the courtyard."
"Alright, let's go. The abbot will be angry if he finds out."
Ye Xinghe tugged at Ye Mingqi's sleeve obediently, "Second Uncle, is my grandma inside? Can you take us to see her? Don't worry, we won't do anything or say anything, we'll just look around quietly."
