Chapter 136 Preparing for Renovation
Chapter 136 Preparing for Renovation
The shop that Song Sanniang and her daughter bought was at the corner of a street in the West Market. When they opened the door, a fishy smell hit their noses. Although Li Du said that this shop used to sell fresh fish and seafood, the father and daughter had never thought that the shop would be like this.
Although the store had been moved almost completely, there were still some scattered items that had not been moved away. Not sure if it was the smell of these items, the two of them covered their noses and opened all the doors and windows, and the smell dissipated a little.
The store has three rooms, and the counter is on the right hand side when you enter the door. The store has only two windows. When you go into the backyard, you can see that it is overgrown with weeds.
The well was not covered with anything. There was a peach tree planted in the backyard of the shop next door. Its branches extended to this side. The fallen leaves fell into the well and floated on the water.
There are only two rooms in the backyard, but they are quite large and can accommodate four bunk beds. There is also a small utility room on the left side of the kitchen. The kitchen is also quite large, one-third larger than the one in the city.
After the father and daughter looked at the shop, they felt that it was almost done, so they discussed it. Song Laoer went out and found two women, and the four of them cleaned the shop together, clearing out all the unwanted items.
Song Sanniang had already planned it out. The store was modeled after the appearance of a city, with a dining area facing the street and a view of the scenery, and booths along the wall.
But this time, there is no need to design the tables and chairs specially, just buy ready-made ones. Only the booths and the viewing dining area need to be made by a craftsman.
Originally, Song Laoer wanted to find someone in the village to do it, but he thought that everyone was still helping to build his own house, and his family had just opened a store in the provincial capital not long ago, so it would be too conspicuous to open another one in the county town.
He was originally a bricklayer, and he had a few good friends in the county. He planned to look for these friends. He was trustworthy in the work he could do, and his craftsmanship was impeccable.
So he left Song Sanniang in the store while he hurried to find his friends. On the way, he bought two buns for lunch.
Song Sanniang locked the door while Song Laoer was out and went to the furniture store in the West Market to look at the furniture here. There are three furniture stores of different sizes in the West Market.
She went to the largest one first. The store had a complete range of products and a simple and elegant style. She picked out some tables and chairs that were suitable for the store.
The waiter of the store didn't know what was going on. When she saw Song Sanniang come in, she didn't greet her. She looked for a while, but no one came forward to introduce her to anything.
She felt a little uncomfortable because the waiters in many stores she had visited before would greet her warmly upon entering. She didn't feel that she was superior, but when she wanted to ask the waiters in this store, they ignored her.
There were three people in the store, and she looked at one of them and wanted to ask him something. She only made eye contact with him, and he pretended not to see her and looked away, which made her a little unhappy.
She turned her attention to the other two people, who simply ignored Song Sanniang and chatted happily with each other.
Song Sanniang didn't indulge them and shouted directly, "Who is the shopkeeper? I have a business to discuss with the shopkeeper. If the shopkeeper is not here, please call him over."
The three looked at each other. One of the two who were chatting happily looked at Song Sanniang and said impatiently, "The shopkeeper is not here. You are just a little girl. Just tell me what you want to say."
It was the first time that Song Sanniang encountered such a poor service attitude. She ignored the man's impatience and asked, "When will your shopkeeper be here?"
It was the turn of another person to speak up, "Just tell me what you want to say. It's really impressive of a little girl to meet our boss."
Song Sanniang smiled instead of getting angry. She said calmly, "I want to buy a dozen tables and chairs. It's really not a big deal. No wonder you look down on me. Since you don't welcome a small customer like me, I'll just leave."
After she finished speaking, she turned and walked out, leaving the three people in doubt. The one who looked away asked anxiously, "Have we gotten into trouble? She wants to buy so many tables and chairs."
The other two didn't take it seriously, "Look, she's just a little girl. She bought as much as she was told. She just made up for it because we ignored her."
Song Sanniang no longer cared about the three people. She planned to go to two other small furniture stores to have a look.
She went to the second furniture store, but the store only had three or four styles, and they were all relatively large and not suitable for the store. She could only put her hope on the third store.
Unfortunately, the third store was not very good either. The styles were average, and some of the furniture was not well made. It looked very rough.
At this point, Song Sanniang could understand why the waiter at the first store had such a bad attitude.
Because they have more styles than these two, and you can see that the craftsmanship is very good, all the furniture is solid and smooth, such a store must have good business, so there is no shortage of customers,
She went there early and there were no customers yet. The three waiters had probably just opened the shop and were venting all their resentment at work on her.
Song Sanniang thought about it and decided that since she had already chosen a style and the shop had not been renovated yet, she would wait until the decoration was almost done and then go talk to the shopkeeper directly.
So she bought a basket of dumplings for lunch and returned to the store. When she got back to the store, Song Laoer had not come back yet, so she started eating the dumplings she bought.
At this time, Song Laoer was at the home of one of his employees, Xushui. Xushui was half of Song Laoer's master. When Song Laoer first came out to work, Xushui helped him a lot. Later, whenever there was work to do, he would call Song Laoer. So this time, Song Laoer went to him first.
"You are really good, kid. I heard you got rich. Why did you come to see me?" Xu Shui smiled and patted Song Laoer's shoulder, then pulled him to sit down.
Song Lao Er followed and sat down, "Brother Shui, I rented a shop in Xishi, and I would like to ask you to help renovate it."
Xu Shui was delighted when he heard this. "Oh, sure. I just finished a job and have nothing to do. If you call me, I will definitely go."
Then the two of them talked about the decoration of the store. They were so excited that they went to find the other guys.
After they gathered everyone together, they found a tavern, had a meal and a drink, and after catching up on the past, they discussed the shop renovation. Everyone was an expert, and once Song Lao Er explained it, everyone knew what the job was.
Several people were working with Xu Shui, and when he stopped, everyone stopped too. Now there was work, so everyone worked together. After discussing it together, they agreed to go to the store to take a look, and started work the next day. The wages and materials were also agreed upon.
Although everyone drank, they were not alcoholics. It was a rare occasion for them to get together with Song Lao Er, so they did not drink much. After they were full, they went to the store.
When they saw the shop, everyone teased Song Laoer, saying that he was amazing for renting such a big shop. Song Sanniang followed Song Laoer and greeted them.
It was the first time for everyone to meet Song Sanniang, and they all praised him for being so lucky to have such a beautiful daughter.
After the greetings, everyone got back to business. Song Sanniang told them her ideas, so they took measurements in the store, decided on a renovation plan after some discussion, agreed to start work the next day, and then said goodbye.
Song Sanniang and her daughter closed the door and went to the inn.
