Chapter 139 Dragon Beast

Chapter 139 Dragon Beast

Just as Agred was wondering how the female red dragon had died, a huge creature suddenly appeared in Agred's undead perspective. A healthy young red dragon appeared behind Agred, opened its blood-red maw, and bit at Agred.

Argreed, who had noticed it long ago, immediately activated his Great Strength Amplification and used a powerful backhand strike to send the young red dragon flying against the wall.

After carefully examining the young dragon, Agred suddenly realized, "Ah! I understand now. This mother dragon must have died in childbirth. What a pity. As a member of the red dragon race, she was naturally brave and fierce. The old wounds accumulated over the years and her still-healing injuries meant she didn't have enough strength or the right conditions to safely lay her eggs. Normally, a dragon would shatter the eggs in its belly to save its life at this time. But she risked her life to give birth to you! What a great mother! A rare miracle among the five dragon species, most of whom are of the evil alignment. Little one, are you guarding your mother's remains?"

After Argreed roughly explained the truth, he looked at the red dragon in front of him with great interest and asked a question. After all, it was rare for him to encounter a dragon. Most of the dragon skeletons he had dug up along the way were from the five-colored dragon species. Because the five-colored dragon species created by Tiamat were very typical of selfishness, they would never commemorate or protect the remains of their ancestors. Therefore, the raw materials for dragon products circulating in the market of the entire planet mostly came from the remains of five-colored dragons that were left to rot in the wilderness or were accidentally found in hidden corners. As for the metal dragons, because of their funeral customs, there were basically no treasures related to them circulating in the market.

Therefore, Agred had basically never seen a living five-colored dragon, because they really had no interaction. When he finally met one alive, he would inevitably chat with it for a while.

But the young red dragon seemed unable to speak, and like a wild beast whose territory had been invaded, it kept threatening Agred with its warning roars.

Looking at this scene, Agreed made a somewhat surprised judgment: "A... dragon beast? What a joke. After all that effort to give birth, it's still an intellectually disabled child. Is it because of a difficult birth, premature birth, or malnutrition? Or maybe all three. Your mother went through so much trouble to give birth to an intellectually disabled child. Reality is sometimes so cruel. Misfortune really seems to befall dragons that suffer."

The red dragon was still baring its teeth and glaring. After Agreed walked towards the skeletons of the two red dragons, the young dragon beast pounced on it instantly. Agreed dodged the red dragon's pounce in one swift motion, and at the same time, he used his palm to press down on the young red dragon's rather large head and slam it to the ground.

The little creature struggled to break free from Agred's control, but Agred patiently said, "Little guy, you're lucky. I happen to need someone, so you can join my ranks. But before that, I need to help you develop your brain." With that, Agred used the 'Enlightenment Spell' from nature magic. This spell was originally used by beast tamers to enlighten magical beasts so that they could understand their master's commands.

Arged's enlightenment spell, combined with the fact that dragons' souls are much stronger than humans', quickly calmed the red dragon down. Dragons do have intelligence, but their intellectual development is much slower than that of true dragons. Many dragons don't reach full intelligence until they are at least a hundred years old, at which point, according to human calculations, their IQ is only a pitiful five hundred.

You might say that an IQ of 500 is an exaggeration, but I can tell you very seriously that 500 is just considered mentally challenged among dragons. In fact, the strength of the soul determines the upper limit of intelligence. The stronger the soul, the more extensive the space for thinking ability and memory storage will be after development. The soul strength of dragon beasts is only two to three times stronger than that of humans, which is far too little compared to dragons (Note: the average intelligence level of normal dragon species is around 50,000 IQ).

This is why I've always said that dragon-slaying stories are a joke. A magical creature that can live for at least tens of thousands of years, possibly even having witnessed all of human history, and is born with extraordinary knowledge and intelligence inherited from its bloodline, can actually be killed by just a few people working together?!

In our own tales, dragons are portrayed as lacking knowledge, intelligence, skill, and special abilities; they can only fly lower than bats, making them vulnerable to crossbow bolts. In our stories, dragons are depicted as using breath, barely more powerful than a flamethrower, and residing in easily accessible caves, waiting to be slaughtered. Even with this weakening, they are reduced to nothing more than a bunch of pigs who only know how to eat. Yet, in human stories, humans still need an elite squad of at least twenty people to win. I don't need to elaborate on the composition of these characters; further explanation would be impolite.

However, there's no need to be pessimistic. Dragons have an extremely low reproductive rate, averaging only about six newborns every hundred years. In addition, dragons have no interest in ruling planets, and there are constant internal wars between different dragon species (although humans aren't much stronger). This means that most races never have the chance to fight against dragons before they go extinct. Moreover, most dragons will go to the astral plane to develop after they grow up, because by then most planets are no longer suitable for their enormous size. So, we humans have a chance to compete for dominance on planets if we can advance our technology. Of course, this is on the premise that these dragons don't advance their technology and have no interest in science; otherwise, winning would be a bit of a stretch.

Therefore, apart from the Titans, virtually no other race dares to provoke the dragons, because they simply cannot afford to. Few races have the confidence of the Agreed to challenge the dragons.

Getting back to the main point, the dragon in Agreed's hands stopped struggling after its intelligence was developed. Agreed then released its grip, and the young red dragon turned around to look at Agreed, staring at him with a somewhat dazed expression. Then it knelt on the ground and respectfully said, "Father."

Clearly, the young dragon beast hadn't yet grasped the situation, but it still instinctively felt that the only living being beside it after its awakening must be its creator. Agreed stared at it and instructed, "I'm not exactly your father; you can call me teacher. To be honest, I'm very interested in training you. Although you haven't received any bloodline inheritance, I believe that under my tutelage, your strength will not be weaker than any other dragon of your generation. You only have some congenital deficiencies in your soul, but your physical body is not compromised. I can carefully create a cultivation system for you."

"Thank you, teacher, but...where are my parents?" the dragon asked Agreed, bewildered.

“The smaller one over there is your mother. I’m sorry she had a difficult childbirth, so… she didn’t make it. As for the larger dragon skeleton, it’s a red dragon that died here a long time ago and has nothing to do with you. I don’t know much about your father either. Given that the males of the Five-Colored Dragon Clan are basically a bunch of scum who just finish their business and leave, it’s really difficult for me to find your father.”
