Chapter 165 Thorns Grown on Its Body
Chapter 165 Thorns Grown on Its Body
Wen Jiayue's rebellious streak kicked in, and she asked with a stern face, "What if I refuse to answer?"
Seeing that she was angry, Shen Fuhan raised an eyebrow slightly, somewhat surprised.
"You really don't want to talk about it?"
"I won't say," Wen Jiayue turned her back to him, "I'm going to sleep now."
After a moment of silence behind me, I suddenly heard a rustling sound.
Wen Jiayue didn't want to pay attention, but Zhao Zhao let out a short murmur in her sleep, and she subconsciously turned her head.
Shen Fuhan actually picked up Zhaozhao and put her in the cradle.
Wen Jiayue pursed her lips and asked, "What are you doing?"
Shen Fuhan didn't answer, but lay down again and pulled her into his arms.
Wen Jiayue struggled slightly: "Tonight is not the day for sex."
“I know,” Shen Fuhan said, “I just want to have a good talk with you.”
Wen Jiayue asked warily, "What are you talking about?"
What were you talking about at the time?
Wen Jiayue was completely imprisoned by him, his aura sweeping over her like a tidal wave, as if he were about to pounce on her at any moment.
She dared not act out any longer and had no choice but to reveal a few details.
"We were talking about Guard Ling."
"Is that so?" Shen Fuhan asked calmly. "If that's the case, why don't you dare tell me?"
“Because, because I spoke ill of him,” Wen Jiayue said, “who knew you would show up and talk about your guard like that behind his back? I’m not comfortable with it.”
Shen Fuhan said cryptically, "So you were talking badly about him."
Wen Jiayue was taken aback, not quite understanding what he meant.
Shen Fuhan asked again, "I won't tell Ling He what we talked about."
Wen Jiayue had no choice but to repeat what she had said before: "Introverted, rigid, and infuriating..."
Shen Fuhan nodded and said, "I understand."
Seeing that he didn't ask anything more, Wen Jiayue breathed a sigh of relief and quickly changed the subject.
"Carry Zhaozhao to bed and let her sleep."
“Sleep like this,” Shen Fuhan said in a low voice. “Zhaozhao needs to get used to it beforehand.”
Wen Jiayue asked, puzzled, "Adapt to what?"
"We're going to have sex tomorrow, does she intend to sleep on the bed?" Shen Fuhan paused. "Or, do you want to send her back to the side room to sleep?"
Wen Jiayue's face flushed; she really couldn't understand how Shen Fuhan could say such things so seriously.
She mumbled, "Let's talk about it tomorrow, I'm going to sleep."
A fleeting chuckle came from behind him, and he responded softly.
The next morning, Lin Qianqian left.
Wen Jiayue originally wanted to see her off, but upon hearing that Shen Fuhan had specially arranged for Ling He to escort her back, she decided not to disturb her.
The two people are not familiar with each other, and they are getting married in just over half a month. It would be good for them to cultivate their relationship before the wedding.
Wen Jiayue couldn't help but recall the time before she married Shen Fuhan.
She had only met him once, on the day their wedding date was set.
She was reserved and shy, and after glancing at him from afar, she quickly hid back inside.
She thought it was just a casual glance, but little did she know that even now, that glance would remain etched in her heart.
He stood under the tree, his back straight as bamboo, the wind blowing the hem of his navy blue coat, adding a touch of spiritedness.
As if sensing her gaze, he turned his head and looked in her direction.
Sunlight filtered through the treetops, casting dappled patterns of light on his handsome face, a sight so beautiful it was almost unbelievable.
The sunlight that day was so warm that it washed away the coldness on Shen Fuhan's body, and she thought he would be the gentle and considerate husband she had longed for.
Unfortunately, her eyesight isn't very good.
"Aunt! Aunt!"
Shen Chengyao's voice came from afar, and Wen Jiayue pulled herself out of her memories and looked at Yao'er.
Why did you come alone? Where is your mother?
"Mother sent me to come and play with my little sister," Shen Chengyao said, looking at Zhao Zhao sleeping soundly in the cradle. "When will my little sister wake up?"
Wen Jiayue smiled and said, "She'll wake up in a little while. But why would your mother let you come out to play today?"
These past few days, Shen Chengyao has been memorizing texts during the day under Shen Funian's supervision and studying in the evenings under Shen Fuhan's urging, and has actually lost quite a bit of weight.
Seeing that reading could help her son lose weight, Shen Funian became even more enthusiastic and wouldn't even let him leave the Chang Le Courtyard.
Shen Chengyao sighed like a little adult: "My mother was drinking, and I wanted to try some too, so she kicked me out."
Wen Jiayue was slightly taken aback: "Did she drink a lot?"
Shen Chengyao thought for a moment, then gestured with a round, plump wine jar: "Mother drank so much."
Wen Jiayue immediately sensed something was wrong. Was she drowning her sorrows in alcohol?
However, during the few days that Su Ye was away, she acted normally, as if she had forgotten about him.
After much deliberation, Wen Jiayue decided to visit Chang Le Yuan.
As soon as she entered, she was greeted by a strong smell of alcohol. She frowned and covered her nose with a handkerchief before going in.
Shen Funian was still drinking one glass after another when she saw her come in, and she looked over at her blankly.
"Sister-in-law, what brings you here?"
His speech was still fairly clear, but the two red patches on his cheeks were hard to ignore, and his eyes were unfocused, giving him a hazy, drunken look.
Wen Jiayue asked, "Why did you drink so much?"
"Go ahead and drink if you want," Shen Funian poured her a glass. "Does your sister-in-law want some?"
Wen Jiayue shook her head, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, "Are you missing Doctor Su?"
"Huh?" Shen Funian was taken aback. "Who is Physician Su?"
Wen Jiayue frowned and said, "Don't play dumb."
Shen Funian glanced at her suspiciously: "You're talking like my older brother."
"...How is it similar?"
“The tone of your voice is exactly the same as my brother’s.”
Wen Jiayue pursed her lips and said, "Don't interrupt."
“Okay, I do remember him, but I drink,” Shen Funian said with a smile, “definitely not for him.”
"Then why did you drink so much?"
“I already said, drink if you want,” Shen Funian shook her head. “I’m a little dizzy, I need to go to sleep.”
She stumbled toward the bed, and Wen Jiayue quickly helped her up.
Seeing that she quickly fell into a deep sleep, Wen Jiayue told Furong to take good care of her before leaving.
Shen Funian has always been a carefree person; hopefully, she's just overthinking things.
In the evening, when Shen Fuhan returned, Wen Jiayue told him about Shen Funian's drunkenness.
“Perfect, there’s no need to teach Yao’er to read today,” Shen Fuhan said calmly. “Let’s go to bed after dinner.”
Wen Jiayue: "...Can't you even show some concern for Third Sister?"
“It’s no use for others to say anything,” Shen Fuhan said. “It’s better to wait for her to figure it out herself.”
Wen Jiayue didn't quite understand: " Figured out what?"
“Su Ye,” Shen Fuhan looked at her, “do you think she really let go just like that?”
Wen Jiayue retorted, "Maybe Third Sister is just that carefree?"
Shen Fuhan just scoffed. That scholar Wang hurt her so deeply, and it took her a year or two to recover.
There's no point in discussing this, so he changed the subject.
"Why don't you think about where Zhaozhao should sleep tonight?"
After saying that, he turned and went back to his room.
Wen Jiayue looked at his back with a puzzled expression, feeling that he was acting strangely today.
She seemed even colder, as if she had grown thorns, even though she was smiling just yesterday.
Perhaps it was because a case at the Dali Temple was not progressing smoothly, Wen Jiayue did not think about it any further.
