Chapter 181 Foreign Country
Chapter 181 Foreign Country
U.K--
Bai Wei slowly opened her eyes, and a strange aura rushed towards her.
She looked around and saw that the room was simply and elegantly furnished, with several old oil paintings hanging on the walls, a thick carpet on the floor, and heavy curtains hanging on the windows, making the light coming in somewhat dim.
"Where is this?" Bai Wei murmured to herself, her voice echoing in the silent room as if she received no response.
She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness forced her to lie back down.
Bai Wei tried hard to recall what had happened before, but her mind seemed to be shrouded in a fog.
She only remembered being in the hospital, and then feeling a heavy weight in her head, and a strong urge to sleep...
And then...and then I don't remember anything.
She touched her forehead and felt it was a little hot. Was she sick?
Or was it all just a dream? Bai Wei was filled with doubt and unease. She decided to observe her surroundings first and then try to figure out where she was.
Despite feeling unwell, she got up and opened the door.
What comes into view is...
This mansion exudes luxury and elegance, with each space showcasing ingenious design.
The living room is highlighted by its tall, arched windows, allowing natural sunlight to flow in and giving the space a sense of openness and light. Elegant sofas and dark furniture complement each other perfectly, while a delicate chandelier hangs above, exuding a dignified yet warm atmosphere.
The dining area centers around a completely new type of dining table, paired with chic art chandeliers and a green wall, balancing modernity with a natural feel.
Her bedroom, with its soft colors and delicate decorations, creates a tranquil and private atmosphere.
"Where am I?" she murmured to herself as she slowly walked out of the room, her eyes darting around as she surveyed her surroundings.
Everything here seemed so unfamiliar, so different from the environment she was used to.
The buildings on both sides of the street have very different styles, as if they came from another country.
She couldn't help but wonder how she had ended up in such a place.
Suddenly, she remembered that a nurse had given her a bowl of medicine earlier, and she started feeling dizzy after drinking it.
Then I woke up in this godforsaken place.
It seems someone deliberately brought her here…
Just as she was wondering, a soft footstep alerted her.
Although the sound was light and cheerful, it was exceptionally clear in the quiet environment.
Bai Wei's heart raced instantly, and a strange sense of tension welled up inside her.
Her body reacted instinctively; she quickly turned around, hurried back to her room, and closed the door behind her.
Standing behind the door, her breathing was a little rapid, and she gripped the doorknob tightly with both hands, as if that could bring her a sense of security.
She stood there quietly, her ear pressed against the door, listening intently to the sounds outside.
The footsteps grew closer and closer, each step feeling like it was pounding on her heart, making her nerves increasingly tense.
"Knock, knock, knock..." A rhythmic knocking sound suddenly rang out, sounding particularly abrupt in the quiet environment. The sound was like a heavy hammer, striking her heart hard and making her heart beat faster involuntarily.
Her hands gripped the doorknob tightly.
"Who is it?" Her voice trembled slightly and rose a few decibels unconsciously, as if she were somewhat nervous and wary of the uninvited guest outside the door.
Upon hearing her question, the person outside immediately replied in fluent English, "Hello, madam, I am your maid. My name is Ann." The voice sounded very gentle, but it only deepened her doubts.
"Is she speaking a foreign language?" she murmured to herself, a sense of inexplicable panic rising within her.
Is this a foreign country? How did she suddenly end up in this unfamiliar place? It all seemed unbelievable to her, as if she were in a bizarre dream.
She hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to open the door to see who the woman outside was. As the door slowly opened, a figure appeared before her.
She was a plump woman with golden hair cascading down her shoulders like a waterfall. She was dressed as a maid and had a friendly smile on her face as she looked at Bai Wei.
"Hello, welcome to London, England. This will be your residence from now on, Madam! I hope you will like it here!" the maid said with a smile, and at the same time, she made a warm gesture for Bai Wei to enter the house.
However, Bai Wei looked bewildered by the maid's enthusiasm. She looked at the maid, shook her head helplessly, and said in broken English, "Sorry, I don't understand the language here."
Bai Wei felt a little anxious. She knew that the language barrier would cause her a lot of inconvenience in this unfamiliar country.
Despite the maid's attempts to communicate, the language barrier made communication extremely difficult.
She looked around, her eyes anxiously searching for any possible place where she could find paper and pen.
Although she knew nothing about the local language, at least she could read, which was perhaps her only way to communicate with the outside world.
Suddenly, her gaze fell on the coffee table, where paper and pen were laid out.
She was overjoyed and quickly walked over, picking up a pen and paper without hesitation.
She quickly scribbled a line on the paper: "I'm not from here. Where is this? Tell me."
After she finished writing, she handed the paper to the maid standing to the side. The maid took the paper, glanced at the words on it, and then picked up the pen without hesitation and wrote two words below: "London, UK".
Bai Wei looked at the words written by the maid and felt a sense of helplessness.
She didn't understand any foreign languages and was still completely clueless.
Just as Bai Wei was feeling utterly helpless, a deep and magnetic male voice came from the stairwell, "Ann, Madam doesn't understand foreign languages. She has some things to say to me. I understand Chinese, so I'll translate for her." The man spoke in English.
Ann nodded. "Okay."
Bai Wei looked in the direction of the sound and saw a man in a well-tailored suit walking slowly towards her.
His face was stern, his eyes were deep, and he exuded an innate nobility and majesty.
"Who are you?" Bai Wei's voice trembled slightly as she stared intently at the unfamiliar man before her, her heart filled with unease and doubt.
The man's lips curled into a subtle, enigmatic smile. His voice was deep and gentle, carrying a reassuring quality: "Miss Bai, don't panic. This is London, England. This Ann is a native Londoner. She will take care of you here. You have absolutely nothing to worry about."
Bai Wei's brows remained furrowed; she was not satisfied with the man's explanation. "She doesn't understand Chinese, so I'll translate what she said for you," the man continued. "She just said this is London, England."
Bai Wei's heart pounded faster and faster. She suddenly realized that this man seemed to know everything about her situation. "How do you know my surname is Bai? Who are you? And why am I here?" She bombarded him with questions one after another, her tone growing increasingly urgent.
A strong sense of unease welled up in Bai Wei's heart. She began to recall what had happened before, but her mind was blank. She didn't know how she had come to this unfamiliar place, nor did she know what the relationship was between this man, Ann, and her.
“Miss Bai, someone brought you here and asked us to take good care of you. As for who it is, you’ll find out when they arrive,” the man said.
Upon hearing this, Bai Wei's doubts deepened. Just as she was about to ask further questions, the man suddenly turned around and instructed the maid beside him, "Cook something for Miss Bai to eat first."
The maid's name was Ann. After hearing the man's words, she bowed slightly, replied with an "okay" in English, and then turned and walked towards the kitchen.
Bai Wei's gaze followed Ann's retreating figure until she disappeared through the kitchen doorway, before she turned her attention back to the man.
Why am I here? Who sent you to bring me here?
"At the very least, I need to know if it's someone I know."
Bai Wei's voice revealed a hint of urgency; she really couldn't understand why she had inexplicably appeared in this unfamiliar place.
