Chapter 166 The person behind the scenes
Chapter 166 The person behind the scenes
Bai Wei hailed a taxi on the roadside and drove towards Haihua Residential Area.
She wants to go back; she doesn't belong here.
As Bai Wei watched the street scenes receding outside the window, her mood gradually calmed down.
Finally arriving at Haihua Residential Area, Bai Wei paid the fare and got out of the car. She walked familiarly into the somewhat old residential building, where a faint musty smell permeated the corridor and the lights were dim.
She walked up the stairs step by step until she arrived at the front door of her small home.
She opened the door to find the house empty. Her father and brother must have gone to work; she was home alone.
The room was simple and cozy. Although it lacked the luxury of a wealthy family, it was her safe haven. She tossed her bag onto the sofa, slumped down on it, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.
She picked up her phone from the table, her fingers trembling slightly. After taking a deep breath, Bai Wei dialed her father's number, then held the phone to her ear and waited quietly.
However, all that came from the other end of the phone was that chilling dial tone, as if it were a heartless rejection.
She hung up the phone unwillingly and dialed again, but the result was the same.
Bai Wei's heart sank, a sense of unease welling up inside her. Why wasn't her father answering the phone? Was he unavailable? Or had something happened? Countless questions swirled in her mind.
After hesitating for a moment, she decided to call her brother; perhaps he could know about their father's situation. She dialed Bai Yu's number and waited anxiously.
Time ticked by, and finally, the call connected. "Hello?" Bai Yu's voice came through the receiver, tinged with a hint of doubt.
“Brother, it’s me, Weiwei,” she said quickly, her voice urgent.
"Weiwei? Is that you?" Bai Yu seemed somewhat surprised.
"It's me, brother, I'm back. I drugged Fu Shiyue and ran back, but I tried to call Dad, but he didn't answer." She asked anxiously.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then Bai Yu's voice came through: "He's probably busy."
At this moment, the Bai family members were all gathered at Bai Zhenhua's place, so Bai Chuhua and Bai Yu were not home.
On the other end of the phone, Bai Yu glanced at Bai Chuhua sitting beside him, said nothing, but patiently said, "Weiwei, your brother and dad will go back after they're done with their work, okay?"
"Are you all alright?"
"Of course we're fine, we're perfectly alright," Bai Yu explained patiently.
"Then I'll wait for you to come back at home."
Bai Wei hung up the phone and felt a little relieved.
the other side--
"Is that Weiwei? She's back?" Bai Chuhua asked Bai Yu, who had just hung up the phone.
"She drugged Fu Shiyue to escape. We need to get back as soon as possible. I'm worried that the Fu family might do something."
"it is good."
Fu Shiyue's body began to tremble slightly, his eyes gradually lost focus, and his once clear gaze became hazy. As the effects of the drug gradually took hold, his body slowly leaned backward and finally collapsed heavily onto the sofa.
His consciousness was shrouded in a thick fog, growing increasingly blurred. How much of a drug had Bai Wei given him? This question swirled in his fading mind.
Fu Shiyue's lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but the sound he made was indistinct, like he was muttering to himself. If you listened carefully, you could hear him muttering the names "Aran" and "Baiwei".
In his hazy vision, the figures of Aran and Baiwei appeared alternately. Aran's smile was like spring flowers in bloom, gentle and sweet; Baiwei's face was faintly visible in the mist, elusive and hard to discern.
His hand unconsciously rose, wanting to touch the face so close to his, but every time he was about to touch it, the figure would disappear in an instant like a phantom.
"Don't leave..." Fu Shiyue's voice was filled with despair and pleading, but his hand eventually fell limply to his side, and his consciousness was completely swallowed by darkness, plunging him into a deep coma.
In his dream, everything seemed so clear, as if he were actually there. He stood behind a woman, who stood quietly with her back to him, as if waiting for something.
He slowly approached her, each step filled with anticipation and nervousness. When he finally reached her, he gently patted her shoulder, gesturing for her to turn around.
The woman slowly turned around, revealing a beautiful and familiar face. It was Ye Xingran, her smile as warm as the spring sun. Her long, jet-black hair cascaded down her shoulders like a waterfall, gently brushing against her fair skin and exuding a faint fragrance. She wore a white dress, the hem fluttering in the wind, making her look like a fairy descended from heaven.
"Shi Yue, I am willing to marry you..." Her voice was soft yet firm, like heavenly music, echoing in his ears.
The scene shifts, and he finds himself at a wedding. Ye Xingran, dressed in a pure white wedding gown and veil, resembles a blooming lily as she slowly walks towards him. Her steps are light and graceful, each one feeling like it's treading on his heart, making his heart race.
He stood there, his gaze intense, fixed on her. It was as if she were the only person in the entire world.
When she walked up to him, he reached out his hand, and she gave him hers without hesitation. Their hands clasped tightly, as if time had stood still for that moment.
However, in this blissful moment, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. He looked down and saw blood gushing from his body, staining his white shirt red.
He looked up in astonishment, only to find Ye Xingran holding a knife in her hand, which was plunged straight into his abdomen.
The smile was gone from her face, replaced by anger and determination.
"Fu Shiyue, this is what happens when you lie to me!" Her voice was cold and ruthless, like the cold wind of winter, piercing his heart.
He seemed unable to believe what was happening before his eyes. He tried to say something, but found that his throat was blocked by something, and he couldn't make a sound.
Suddenly, he woke up from a nightmare, his forehead covered in beads of sweat. He looked around and found himself lying on his bed in his bedroom.
Shen Xian'an, who was standing beside him, looked at him with concern, his eyes revealing a hint of anxiety and worry.
"What are you doing here?" He slowly sat up, still feeling weak, and leaned against the headboard, asking in a slightly hoarse voice.
Shen Xian'an walked quickly to the bedside, sat down on the chair next to the bed, frowned slightly, and said with a hint of reproach in his voice, "If I hadn't come, you probably would have passed out completely. What did you do to offend her that made her drug you?"
It turned out that Shen Xian'an had arrived during the few minutes he was unconscious. Seeing no response from inside, he became uneasy, worried something had happened to him, so he simply climbed over the wall. Upon entering the living room, he saw Fu Shiyue lying unconscious on the floor, which terrified him.
Shen Xian'an quickly called Dr. Qin, the Fu family's private doctor. After examining Fu Shiyue, Dr. Qin said that Fu Shiyue was not seriously injured; he had only been drugged. Dr. Qin would prescribe some medicine for him later, and he would wake up after a short nap. Hearing this, Shen Xian'an breathed a sigh of relief.
"You're truly bewitched by that woman. You've been so devoted to her, yet she still managed to do this to you!"
Shen Xian'an said indignantly, his heart filled with anger and dissatisfaction towards that woman.
“If she were still by my side as Ye Xingran before, she might still have done this. However, she is no longer Ye Xingran. She is a member of the Bai family, and her real name is Bai Wei. She has lost some of her memories. So, the reason she is doing this is simply to escape from my side.”
Deep down, everything about her was completely different from before. Not only had she changed her identity, but her personality and thoughts seemed to have changed as well.
"I'm truly impressed by you, so devoted to her!" He shook his head helplessly, then said, "However, I didn't come here today to discuss these romantic matters with you. I have something serious to tell you."
As he spoke, his expression suddenly turned serious, and he gripped a file folder tightly in his hand, as if it contained something important.
He slowly opened the file bag, took out some documents and photos, and handed them to Fu Shiyue. "This is some information about the person behind Lu Fei, and this person is very likely him—his name is Bai Yu."
He pointed to the man in the photos; he appeared in every single one.
“The last target of Ye Xingran’s mission in Yunmeng was you. She got close to you and obtained a USB drive containing all the communications between your senior executives and some trade secrets. If this falls into Bai Yu’s hands, it will be very detrimental to your Fu family. Once it’s made public, you’ll be finished.” Shen Xian’an’s words were heavy and serious.
Fu Shiyue looked at the man in the photo, who was wearing glasses. The man meeting with Lu Fei was Bai Yu.
The image of the man he met when he visited Bai Wei at the Bai family home flashed through his mind. He had a refined appearance and spoke politely, but he never expected that he had such a face behind the scenes.
Fu Shiyue said, "His sole purpose in all of this is to destroy the Fu family; he's here for revenge. The Bai family and the Fu family had a grudge against each other before, so everything makes sense."
Shen Xian'an was confused by his words and asked doubtfully, "What are you talking about? What do you mean everything makes sense? Isn't this what you asked me to investigate? How can this be wrong?"
Bai Wei sat anxiously at home, waiting for her family to return. Suddenly, the doorbell rang urgently. Full of anticipation, she ran to open the door.
The door opened, and there stood her brother and father.
"You're back?" She was very happy to see them return safely.
