Chapter 164 Bronze Mirror
Chapter 164 Bronze Mirror
Chapter 164 Ancient Bronze Mirror
On the way back, Lin Fan became obedient and dared not say another word.
"Are you going to the clinic again tomorrow? I can help you out."
Su Ruowei suddenly asked, seemingly with some expectation.
"Go ahead," Lin Fan said with a wry smile.
Since it's Su Ruowei who wants to go, then let's just be dogs.
Lin Fan and his wife returned home and were about to put the groceries they had bought into the refrigerator when they saw Su Zhengwu walking over excitedly, holding an antique bronze mirror.
"Stop showing off. You spent 20 yuan on a broken mirror. What are you so proud of?"
Shen Yunlan said from the side, but there was no accusation in her tone; instead, there was a hint of boasting.
Did Su Zhengwu get a bargain?
Su Zhengwu moved closer to Lin Fan and his wife, unable to resist showing off.
There are only five people in the family: besides him, there are Shen Yunlan, Lin Fan, Su Ruowei, and Xiao Xinran.
He had been bragging to Shen Yunlan all afternoon.
Little Xinran is only 5 years old, and she couldn't escape his clutches.
As soon as I got home from school, Su Zhengwu started bragging to me for ages, but I was completely lost.
Seeing Lin Fan and Su Ruowei return home, he naturally wouldn't let them go.
"Good son-in-law, take a look at this Warring States period bronze mirror of mine!"
Su Zhengwu said proudly, "I just bought it this morning at the Jubaozhai Antique Market. It only cost me 20."
"This Warring States period bronze mirror recently fetched over 100 million at auction in Hong Kong."
"I saw it, and that one looks almost exactly like mine. I really got a great deal."
"Do you think I, Su, have a real talent for collecting?"
"I've made up my mind! From now on, you'll call me the Collector."
After taking Lin Fan's money, Su Zhengwu started thinking about how to spend it.
After thinking it over and over, I decided to go to the Jubaozhai Antique Market.
"Dad, let me see."
Lin Fan wanted to test the results of his recent studies, as he had already learned a lot about the identification of bronze mirrors from "Tong Gu Bo Jin".
"Here you go." Su Zhengwu smiled and handed the bronze mirror to Lin Fan.
Lin Fan took it, glanced at it, and shook his head helplessly.
A fake look!
This doesn't even utilize one percent of the knowledge points.
"Dad, this is fake." Lin Fan helplessly handed the bronze mirror back to Su Zhengwu.
Su Zhengwu looked astonished: "Fake? How could it be fake!"
Shen Yunlan jumped up and ran to Lin Fan's side, anxiously asking:
"Good son-in-law, what's your basis for saying this is fake?"
Lin Fan truthfully stated, "To identify a bronze mirror, first look at the knob in the middle. In the Warring States period, it was a bridge-shaped knob; in the Han Dynasty, it was a steamed bun-shaped knob; and in the Tang Dynasty, it was an animal-shaped knob."
"The pattern on your mirror is from the Warring States period, but the knob is made of animal motifs."
"So it's fake."
Su Zhengwu stared blankly in the mirror: "How much is this worth?"
Lin Fan shook his head: "A few dozen yuan, just enough for the materials and processing."
The voice just fell.
Without saying a word, Shen Yunlan grabbed Su Zhengwu's ear and said, "You spendthrift old man! You spent 20 yuan to buy a piece of junk."
Immediately afterwards, Shen Yunlan grabbed Su Zhengwu and chased him toward the bedroom.
At the bedroom door, he flung Su Zhengwu out like a puppy.
Shen Yunlan kicked Su Zhengwu in the buttocks and stormed in.
With a loud bang, the bedroom door slammed shut.
Too violent.
Lin Fan swallowed hard and secretly glanced at Su Ruowei.
He was terrified that she would inherit her mother's traits.
Lin Fan sensed that Su Ruowei's temper had been fluctuating lately, and there was probably a sign that something was wrong.
"That's so fierce! I was terrified!"
Su Ruowei sighed, then pouted and asked, "Master Lin, you can also appraise treasures?"
"I bought it at the bookstore to pass the time. I happened to be reading the chapter on identifying bronze mirrors, but I didn't expect that my dad didn't use much of his knowledge about this mirror."
Lin Fan took out "A Comprehensive History of the Past and Present" from the plastic bag containing the ingredients; he had originally planned to read it that evening.
Su Ruowei couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Neither of them wanted to bother with the old couple. Lin Fan went straight to the kitchen, while Su Ruowei went to play games with Xiao Xinran.
At dinner time, the dishes had been on the table for a while before Shen Yunlan finally dragged Su Zhengwu out by the ear.
"Speak!" Shen Yunlan yelled at Su Zhengwu.
Su Zhengwu shuddered and said tremblingly, "Daughter, son-in-law, could you come with me to the antique market tomorrow to get the money back?"
"Louder!" Shen Yunlan punched Su Zhengwu in the back again.
Su Zhengwu straightened up: "Son-in-law, tomorrow—"
"Okay, I'll go tomorrow!" Lin Fan said with an awkward smile, feeling genuine sympathy for his father-in-law.
Lin Fan was not surprised that Su Zhengwu had been deceived.
Consider the 20 yuan as a lesson for Su Zhengwu.
After all, the antique industry is a murky business, and it's easy to fool newcomers.
If a newcomer claims to have found a bargain, they've most likely been scammed.
Therefore, Lin Fan plans to take a stroll tomorrow, and then transfer 20 yuan to Su Zhengwu when he gets home at noon, saying that he has come to collect the debt.
Although Shen Yunlan had several million yuan given to her by Lin Fan, she couldn't change her stingy and miserly nature.
She can't stand seeing herself being taken advantage of; even if it's just a matter of paying two ounces less for vegetables, she'll argue with the other person for ages.
"Su Zhengwu! You'll be with your son-in-law tomorrow!" Shen Yunlan scolded.
"Tomorrow is Saturday, I'll go too," Su Ruowei said.
Su Ruowei thought to herself that Su Zhengwu definitely couldn't show up at the antique market, so only Lin Fan could ask for it.
Whether I get the money back or not doesn't matter; I'll just take this opportunity to go on a date with Lin Fan.
Lin Fan's heart skipped a beat. The plan he had just come up with had fallen through. He really had to go to the antique market tomorrow.
He then looked at Shen Yunlan.
"I'm not going. I'll stay home and take care of the children," Shen Yunlan said with a smile to Xiao Xinran.
Xiao Xinran pouted; she was just about to say that she wanted to go too.
Shen Yunlan softened for only a second before turning into a tigress when she looked at Su Zhengwu: "If you dare touch any more antiques, I'll break your legs!"
"Ugh—" Su Zhengwu wished he could bury his head in the ground.
Lin Fan frowned and lowered his head to eat.
Looking at it this way, it seems that Shen Yunlan wasn't too bad to me before; at least she never laid a hand on me.
After dinner, everyone returned to their suites.
Lin Fan sat at his desk, holding "A Comprehensive History of Ancient and Modern Times" and continued reading.
I thought I could take advantage of tomorrow to test my learning results.
Su Ruowei lay on the bed, holding her phone and looking at Lin Fan:
"I just checked, Jubaozhai Antique City is the territory of the Shanhai Chamber of Commerce. Let's go shopping there tomorrow, and forget about the money."
"Mom is really something. Antiques are supposed to be sold and then the seller takes no responsibility. How could she send you to collect the debt?"
Lin Fan smiled and said, "That's because I know Uncle Gao from the Shancheng Group."
"Knowing each other is one thing, but we can't keep causing trouble for them," Su Ruowei said helplessly.
She added, "I'll pay for this. Don't go to Jubaozhai tomorrow. Just transfer the money to Dad so he can report back."
"President Su is different now that she's a boss, she's really extravagant," Lin Fan joked.
