The Dock Agreement
The anonymous letter was like a lure in the darkness, exuding a dangerous yet alluring aura. My hand holding the letter trembled slightly, my eyes fixed on the words, my heart filled with mixed emotions. Today I was wearing a black cheongsam, and as if affected by this unknown danger, the normally elegant cheongsam now seemed somewhat oppressive.
When Gu Zixuan saw me holding the letter, his expression turned worried. "Fangfei, this letter is definitely a trap. You can't go."
I bit my lip, my heart filled with conflict. "Zixuan, I know this might be a trap, but what if we can actually find a clue to solve the raw material problem? We have no other choice now."
Gu Zixuan frowned, his eyes filled with worry and determination. "Fangfei, I can't let you take such a risk. If you absolutely must go, I'll go with you."
I shook my head. "The letter said I have to go alone. If we go against the rules, we might not get anything."
Shen Wanqing, standing to the side, also advised, "Miss Lin, this is too dangerous. Let's think of another way."
I took a deep breath, looked at them, and said, "Don't worry, I'll be careful. I'll carry some self-defense items with me, and I won't easily believe what others say."
Gu Zixuan was still worried, and he held my hand tightly. "Fangfei, you must be careful. If you find any danger, leave immediately."
I nodded and began preparing to go to the dock for our appointment. I placed a small pistol in the hidden pocket of my cheongsam; it was something Gu Zixuan had given me for self-defense. I also took a sharp knife and concealed it in my sleeve.
As night fell, I walked alone towards the dock. The dock seemed particularly eerie at night, the dim lights flickering in the wind as if they might go out at any moment. I walked cautiously, my eyes warily scanning my surroundings.
When I arrived at the agreed location, there was no one around. I felt a little nervous, and my hand unconsciously reached for the pistol in my hidden pocket.
"You've finally arrived." A deep voice came from the darkness.
I was startled and quickly looked in the direction of the sound. I saw a man wearing a long black overcoat slowly walk out. His face was partially obscured by his hat, so I couldn't see his features clearly.
"Who are you? Do you know who is sabotaging our textile factory?" I tried to keep my voice calm.
The man chuckled, the sound echoing eerily in the silent dock. "Miss Lin, don't be in such a hurry. Of course I know who's behind this, but I need to see your sincerity first."
I frowned and asked, "What sincerity?"
The man pointed at my clothes. "Hand over all your weapons. Do you think it's polite to come to see me with these things?"
My heart skipped a beat. How did he know I was carrying a weapon? I hesitated for a moment, then said, "How do I know you won't hurt me? What if you try to harm me after I hand over my weapon?"
The man smiled again. "Miss Lin, you have no choice. If you want to know the truth, do as I say."
I bit my lip, thought for a moment, and then slowly took out my pistol and knife and placed them on the ground.
The man nodded in satisfaction. “Miss Lin, it’s a very wise choice. Actually, the people who sabotaged your textile factory are your competitors, Li’s Textile Factory. They’ll stop at nothing to get the department store’s orders.”
I was filled with rage. "So it was them! How could they be so despicable?"
The man continued, "They not only sabotage your raw materials, but also spread rumors about your textile factory behind your back, making other customers afraid to cooperate with you."
I clenched my fists. "Then why are you telling me all this? What's your purpose?"
The man was silent for a moment, then said, "I also have some grudges with the Li's Textile Factory. I want to use you to get revenge on them. However, I can offer you some assistance."
I looked at him warily. "What kind of help?"
The man pulled an envelope from his pocket. "This contains some shady trade secrets of the Li's Textile Factory. You can use these secrets to fight back against them."
I took the envelope, a question lingering in my mind. "Why don't you expose them yourself?"
The man sighed. "I have my own difficulties. Miss Lin, just know that we are allies now. However, you should be careful; the Li Textile Factory is not to be trifled with. They may have the support of the Japanese behind them."
Hearing the word "Japanese," my heart sank. "Japanese? Why would they support the Li's Textile Factory?"
The man said, "The Japanese want to control the entire textile industry in Shanghai. They support the Li family textile factory in order to suppress enterprises like yours that have national integrity."
My heart was filled with anger and worry. "What should we do?"
The man said, "You must use these secrets as soon as possible to let the department store owner know the true nature of Li's Textile Factory before he inspects it. That way, you will have a chance to get orders."
I nodded. "Thank you for reminding me. But how can I believe that the secrets you gave me are true?"
The man smiled. "Miss Lin, you can verify it first. If it's fake, you can come back to me then."
After saying that, the man turned and disappeared into the darkness.
I grabbed the envelope and rushed back to the textile factory. I told Gu Zixuan and Shen Wanqing what had happened.
Gu Zixuan frowned and said, "Can this man's words be trusted? We should verify them carefully."
Shen Wanqing also said, "Miss Lin, I don't think this matter is that simple. We need to be wary of this being a new trap."
We began to carefully verify the secrets in the envelope. After some investigation, we discovered that most of the secrets were genuine.
“It seems this man wasn’t lying to us,” I said.
Gu Zixuan nodded. "Then we need to find a way to leak these secrets to the department store owner."
Just as we were discussing how to leak the secret to the department store owner, Lee's Textile Factory seemed to have noticed our actions.
They sent a letter of challenge that read: "Lin Fangfei, Gu Zixuan, do you think you can defeat us? We won't let you get away with this."
This challenge has put us under immense pressure. We know a fierce business competition is about to erupt, and we wonder if we can win this competition and thwart the Japanese conspiracy behind it all.

The challenge letter, like a war clarion call, filled the air in the textile factory with tension. I gripped the letter tightly, my fingers turning white from the force, my eyes burning with fury. I was wearing a bright red cheongsam today, hoping the vibrant color would bolster my courage, but at that moment it seemed more like the embodiment of my anger at being provoked.
Gu Zixuan stood beside me, his eyes cold and resolute, like a warrior about to go into battle. "Fangfei, this is blatant provocation, we cannot back down."
I bit my lip and said firmly, "That's right, Zixuan. We must let them know that we are not to be trifled with."
Shen Wanqing said worriedly from the side, "Miss Lin, Mr. Gu, the Li's Textile Factory is backed by the Japanese. We have to be careful."
I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. "Wanqing, you're right. We need to come up with a comprehensive plan first."
The three of us sat around the office table and began to discuss how to deal with the situation.
“We can first reveal some of their trade secrets to the department store owner, making the owner suspicious of them,” Gu Zixuan suggested.
I nodded. "This method works. But we need to do it subtly, so they don't find out that we're the ones pulling the strings behind the scenes."
Shen Wanqing thought for a moment and said, "Miss Lin, we can find a middleman to anonymously leak the confidential information to the boss."
My eyes lit up. "Wanqing, that's a great idea. But who should we ask to be the middleman?"
Just as we were thinking about the middleman, an unexpected person appeared at the entrance of the textile factory.
This is my college classmate, Su Yao. She was wearing a light blue dress, her hair was styled in fashionable curls, and she had a faint smile on her face.
"Fangfei, it's been a long time," Su Yao said as she entered the office.
I stood up in surprise. "Su Yao, what brings you here?"
Su Yao glanced at Gu Zixuan and Shen Wanqing, then said, "Fangfei, I heard that your textile factory has run into some trouble. I've come to see if I can help."
A thought suddenly struck me: Could she be the middleman we're looking for?
I briefly explained what had happened to Su Yao, and then asked her, "Su Yao, would you be willing to help us with this?"
Su Yao said without hesitation, "Fangfei, we're classmates, of course I'm willing to help you. Besides, I can't stand people who compete using unfair means."
So we handed over the trade secrets of Li's Textile Factory to Su Yao, asking her to anonymously disclose them to the department store owner.
After Su Yao left, we waited for the department store owner's reaction.
However, several days passed, and there was still no word from the department store owner.
"What's going on? Did Su Yao not reveal the secret to the boss?" I asked, puzzled.
Gu Zixuan frowned and said, "That's unlikely. Su Yao seems very reliable. Could it be that the boss hasn't taken these confidential matters seriously?"
Just as we were wondering what was going on, we received an invitation from the department store owner to attend a dinner party.
"Is there some hidden secret behind this banquet?" I wondered.
Gu Zixuan said, "No matter what, we have to go. This could be an opportunity for us."
On the day of the banquet, I wore a white lace cheongsam paired with a pearl necklace, looking elegant and poised. Gu Zixuan, on the other hand, wore a black tuxedo, looking incredibly handsome.
When we entered the banquet hall, we found the owner of Li's Textile Factory was also there. He was wearing a magnificent silk robe and had an arrogant smile on his face.
"Miss Lin, Mr. Gu, tonight is certainly a lively night," the owner of Li's Textile Factory said sarcastically.
I gave him a cold look. "Mr. Li, I hope you can still laugh tonight."
Gu Zixuan snorted dismissively.
After the banquet began, the department store owner stood up to give a speech.
"Distinguished guests, I've invited you all here today to announce something important," the department store owner said.
My heart was in my throat as I nervously awaited what the boss would say next.
"After my investigation, I discovered that Li's Textile Factory has engaged in some unethical business practices. Therefore, I have decided to terminate our cooperation with them and instead cooperate with Miss Lin's textile factory." The department store owner's words caused an uproar throughout the room.
Gu Zixuan and I exchanged a glance, and we were overjoyed.
The owner of Li's Textile Factory looked extremely grim. "Boss, you can't do this. This is all slander; don't believe them."
The department store owner frowned. "Mr. Li, I have enough evidence to prove what you did. You don't need to try to deny it anymore."
