Magical Journey: The Other Shore Blooms on the Other Shore

Chapter 158 Twilight of Mokaricchi 4

Chapter 158 Twilight of Mokaricchi 4

The dark riots continued—the pervasive stench of blood attracted other uninvited guests.

This forest is never short of hunters, but it is always short of prey. So who are the hunters, and who are the prey?

"You think you're kind?" the unknown creature, lurking somewhere, chuckled. "Others may not know, but I do. You abandoned your teammates and fled back—those people all died after you."

“They died, and you became the vice-captain; they remained silent, and you enjoyed wealth and honor.” These incessant murmurs echoed in Eve’s mind.

"Shut up—what do you know? In that situation, would I have risked my life?" Eve's mind had been somewhat blurred by the darkness.

This is the significance of Hozuki—in the darkness, a person's sanity continuously fades, constantly being corrupted by the magic of this forest. Furthermore, most monsters become stronger in the dark.

This area has become a hunting ground for those monsters. Now, former teammates and these hunters are all enemies.

"That's why humans are hypocritical. Survival is nothing to be ashamed of—just like how you abandoned your teammates back then, now you're killing them to survive, what's the fundamental difference?"

"You don't understand anything."

"Would you like to go out?"

"close……"

“I’m talking about getting out of this forest—we’ll make a deal, and I can take you out.”

"fraud……"

"Compared to humans, demons are more trustworthy, aren't they? Give it a try, you want to live, don't you? Trying won't hurt, you're going to die anyway if you don't try."

Due to the relentless attacks from unknown sources in the darkness, Eve was already covered in wounds and was on the verge of death.

It is… a demon… Eve’s mind went blank. Almost instinctively, she asked her question: “Conditions?”

"It brings me joy."

If she didn't agree, she would die... If she agreed, at least she might not die, and she might even be able to lead her people out of the country. These thoughts began to echo in Eve's mind; the darkness had made her forget what had caused them to suffer so much.

The last vestiges of reason told her she should refuse; living would be more painful than dying. But the instinct to survive easily overcame this so-called rationality.

"it is good……"

She closed her eyes and lost consciousness, but stood up again a moment later.

"Bring me more fun." She gave a smile that didn't belong to her, and then slowly walked away from the hunting grounds. The creatures around her that wanted to attack her all took a few steps back, as if afraid of being tainted by that ominous aura.

……

Eve didn't know when she woke up; she only remembered that she was already at the entrance to the dark forest when she regained consciousness.

The people of Mokarich at Dusk all believed that their team had been wiped out. When they sent out another exploration team, they found Eve lying in a corner.

After reviving Eve, the group escorted her back to her country.

It was called escorting, but it was also surveillance.

Even the planned exploration was cancelled—after all, Eve's value is now immeasurable. Not to mention that anyone who returns alive is a rare treasure in themselves, the information they bring back is vital to the kingdom's survival.

Eve and her team have been missing for almost a month, and the supplies they were given were only enough for two weeks.

Now, Eve's return is itself an inconceivable event. Therefore, an entire exploration team is needed to keep an eye on her to prevent any accidents.

Is this still Eve?

This is a question that lingers in everyone's mind.

After passing through numerous security checkpoints, Eve was taken to the leader of the Twilight Mokaridge.

Prior to that, the leader had already received reports from the front lines; so when Eve appeared before him, the elderly man showed no surprise.

"Sit down and relax," the leader said casually, his gaze towards Eve devoid of any particular emotion.

He himself had explored the forest dozens of times and returned successfully. Even now, though he is old and can no longer walk easily, he still leads teams to explore every few months.

No one in the country knows more about that dark forest than him.

Eve sat down awkwardly. She knew perfectly well that her return was extremely unusual. All the members of her squad were dead, but her mind was blank and she couldn't remember anything.

The only thing I can recall is that she once led the team in what seemed like a roundabout way somewhere.

And then...and then I don't remember anything.

“Tell me, what do you remember?” the leader said. “Don’t lie about what you don’t know. You know, I might not be unaware of what you’re talking about.”

He knew a lot of things, though they were vague, but based on that he could roughly deduce whether the person returning to report had lied.

Eve wanted to say she couldn't remember, but suddenly some words came to mind, and she blurted out, "I met God, and He said He could guide us out of this world."

The leader frowned.

It sounded like utter nonsense, but the second half of the sentence forced him to keep listening.

Any clue that leads out is of extra importance to Twilight Mokarich—exploration has been going on for generations, and progress has been extremely slow.

“He said…” Eve continued, following the words in her mind, “He said that He knew the truth about the birth of Mokarich of Twilight.”

"Who is He?" the leader asked.

“I don’t know…” Eve shook her head.

"What does He need?" the leader continued to ask.

“He…He said He needed…I can’t remember.” Eve’s head suddenly throbbed with pain, and in that instant she forgot what she wanted to say.

"Did He tell you the truth about the birth of Mokarich in the Twilight?" The leader was no longer fixated on that condition; whatever the condition, as long as it could lead the people abroad, it was permissible.

The key question is whether this unknown entity will keep its promise.

“He said…we are exiles, banished by God, suffering greatly to atone for our sins,” Eve said. “Therefore, our ancestors were banished here.”

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

"I can't remember..."

"Then go and rest first, let me think about it."
