Chapter 148 The Chi Family's Pampered Darling
Chapter 148 The Chi Family's Pampered Darling
When Chi Moqing and Yan Zuozuo returned home, they saw Lu Zhitu and Chi Ran there as well. Chi Ran seemed to dislike Lu Zhitu and kept sitting on the sofa. Lu Zhitu followed her over and insisted on hugging her.
Chi Ran yelled angrily, "This place is so big, why do you have to sit next to me? Aren't you hot?"
"I'd love to," Lu Zhitu said smugly, and put his arm around her waist.
Chi Ran struggled but couldn't break free. Just then, she saw Chi Moqing and Yan Zuozuo return and cried out for help, "Brother, sister-in-law, quickly kick this scoundrel out!"
"Brother, sister-in-law, you're back? Mom invited me over for dinner," Lu Zhitu said shamelessly.
Chi Moqing didn't seem to mind; taking advantage of someone doesn't discriminate between men and women. But Yan Zuozuo felt very awkward. Lu Zhitu was almost a decade older than her, and being called "sister-in-law" like that was really uncomfortable. She guiltily touched her nose and greeted them.
Chi Moqing put his arm around her and sat her on the sofa, saying with a half-smile, "What, Xiao Ran hasn't agreed to you yet?"
"Only a fool would agree to that! Bro, please help me get rid of this scoundrel!" Chi Ran said indignantly.
Lu Zhitu blinked blankly, then laughed, "So Xiao Ran not only wants to be with me in this life, but she doesn't want to be separated from me even as a ghost. I'm so touched."
"You!" Chi Ran's face turned red with anger.
In Yan Zuozuo's memory, Lu Zhitu had always been calm and composed, but now, seeing his interaction with Chi Ran, she thought she was seeing things. How was this goofy mode any different from Lu Yaoyuan's?
Indeed, genes are powerful.
Chi Moqing winked at Yan Zuozuo, then took her hand and went upstairs, saying, "Let's go see the baby."
Although Chi Moqing was depressed about not having a daughter, holding two adorable little babies in his arms, he couldn't help but feel a pang of tenderness. They were tiny and soft, and seemed a little cuter than a few days ago. He was playing with the babies when, for some reason, the little ones started crying without any hesitation.
Yan Zuozuo quickly took over, checked the little guy's diaper, and instructed, "Get me a new one."
After a month of training with Yan Zuozuo during her postpartum confinement, Chi Moqing was already quite adept at it. He told Yan Zuozuo to rest aside while he skillfully wiped the baby's bottom and changed diapers.
However, he would mutter to himself from time to time, "Kid, you took my daughter away, and now I have to change your diapers. You bad boy, you deserve a beating."
The little boy thought Chi Moqing was playing a game with him, so instead of crying, he giggled. Chi Moqing's eyes softened, and he couldn't help but shower the baby with several kisses on the cheek.
The little baby got upset and burst into tears again. Chi Moqing's face darkened. "Shut up! I'm your father. What's wrong with kissing me a couple of times? Shut up, shut up."
Clearly, the little baby wasn't giving him any face and continued to wail. Yan Zuozuo watched the heartwarming interaction between the father and son, and a smile crept onto her lips. She went over and picked up the little guy, and strangely enough, he stopped crying, which made Chi Moqing feel a pang of sorrow.
Not only does he not have a daughter, but even his son doesn't like him. How tragic!
The other little one probably peed too, so Yan Zuozuo put down the one she was holding and went over to change his diaper as well. But she was quickly stopped by Chi Moqing, "I can do this, you rest."
A wife is meant to be pampered. Giving birth is already hard enough; she shouldn't have to be a maid on top of that.
Chi Moqing was very patient, and Yan Zuozuo looked at him quietly with her beautiful eyes full of tenderness. Soon, Chi's mother came up to call them for dinner, and saw Chi Moqing changing the baby's diaper, and couldn't help but chuckle.
Receiving a mocking look from his mother, Chi Moqing remained calm and asked, "Mom, what is it?"
"Oh, I came up here to tell a certain stay-at-home dad that it's time to eat."
A barely perceptible blush flashed across Chi Moqing's face. She coughed lightly twice to cover it up and said, "I understand."
Just then, the nanny came in and said, "You all go and eat. Leave the child to me."
Chi Moqing nodded and pulled Yan Zuozuo, saying, "Let's go down for dinner."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, her face flushing red as she met Chi's mother's ambiguous smile. She tried to pull her hand away from Chi Moqing's tight grip, but Chi Moqing simply let go and instead quickly placed a kiss on her lips.
Yan Zuozuo gave him a playful glare: "Stop messing around..."
"What's there to be afraid of? Mom knows I love you." Saying this, Chi Moqing glanced at his mother. "Right, Mom?"
Chi's mother nodded happily, while Yan Zuozuo was embarrassed. How come she never had such a thick skin as Chi Moqing before!
In the hall, Chi's father had returned, with Chi Ran and Lu Zhitu sitting beside him. In front of Chi's father, the two younger generation were still very restrained, no longer daring to fight or joke around. When they saw Yan Zuozuo come down, they greeted him with smiles.
Yan Zuozuo and Chi Moqing also sat down. Chi's father said, "Zuozuo has been working hard lately, eat more tonight."
Yan Zuozuo nodded with a smile, and then Chi's father turned his gaze to Chi Moqing, "Zuozuo is a good girl. She has given our Chi family two precious grandsons. You must treat her well. If I find out that you have bullied her, I will not forgive you."
"Don't worry, Dad, I'll treat Zuo Zuo well," Chi Moqing said, looking at Yan Zuo Zuo.
Yan Zuozuo blushed. Although she had lost her mother, she still had her father-in-law and mother-in-law to protect her. Thinking this, her heart softened involuntarily.
During the meal, Chi's father and Chi Moqing drank a few more glasses than usual. Looking at Yan Zuozuo, he said, "Zuozuo, I know your mother's situation has made you very sad. If you're upset, talk to Moqing's mother. Treat her like your own mother. This is your home, and you've given our Chi family two precious grandchildren. You're very important in this family. No one can bully you, understand?"
Hearing this, Yan Zuozuo nodded vigorously and said in a choked voice, "I know, thank you for taking care of me these past few days, Mom and Dad. I'm fine now, I just hope that the murderer who killed my mother can be caught."
"Silly child, there's no need to thank me. Don't worry, with your father and Mo Qing here, they will definitely catch the murderer." As she spoke, Chi's mother placed a piece of sweet and sour pork in her bowl.
Yan Zuozuo nodded, wiped away her tears, and said, "Look, we finally managed to get together for a meal, and I've spoiled the fun again."
“Sister-in-law, this isn’t a downer, it’s heartwarming. If anyone’s going to be a downer, it’s those shameless people who refuse to leave.” Chi Ran chimed in, stomping heavily on Lu Zhitu’s foot.
Lu Zhitu let out a whimper and looked at Chi's mother with a wronged expression, "Mom, look at Xiao Ran, she's abusing her husband."
"Go away, go away, handle your own affairs, don't tell me," Chi's mother said with a smile and a scolding tone, making Lu Zhitu feel even more aggrieved.
Yan Zuozuo laughed out loud, and Chi Moqing held her hand tightly under the table, his eyes filled with tenderness.
Unfortunately, Lu Zhitu happened to see this action and immediately launched a revenge attack on society, "Tsk tsk, isn't it sweet? Holding a girl's hand in broad daylight, in front of everyone, is so shameless."
Chi Moqing raised an eyebrow and looked at him sharply, "I'm willing, but you'd better have someone willing to let you pull me."
Wow, that's ruthless!
Lu Zhitu clutched his chest and collapsed onto the table, causing everyone to burst into laughter.
"Sister-in-law, I can't guarantee anything about other men, but my brother is absolutely devoted to you, so don't worry. Now that you have two precious children to rely on, even he wouldn't dare to bully you." Seeing everyone happy, Chi Ran spoke up heartily. She was about to continue when she met Chi Moqing's warning gaze and immediately stuck out her tongue. "Why are you glaring at me? Are you feeling guilty? If you bully your sister-in-law, I'll lean on her!"
"It seems you don't plan to open any more branches," Chi Moqing said casually, placing some food into Yan Zuozuo's bowl.
"You despicable person!" Chi Ran cried out, "Mom and Dad, look how despicable my brother is, and you don't even do anything about him."
“It’s okay, even if I don’t invest, I’m here for you. I’ll give you as much as you want.” Lu Zhitu immediately became very attentive.
Chi Ran rolled her eyes without giving her any face: "Then I might as well go beg on the street."
Lu Zhitu was seriously injured again, which made everyone laugh.
The meal lasted about two hours. Just as Chi Moqing was about to leave with Yan Zuozuo, he received a call from his assistant, saying that there was an urgent matter that required him to return.
Now that he has enough shares, it's time to purge the company of its corrupt elements. However, these corrupt elements have been around for a long time; they are all founding members of the Chi family, making them difficult to deal with.
He was worried that they would direct their anger at Yan Zuozuo, so he paused and said, "You stay with your parents tonight, and I'll pick you up tomorrow."
Yan Zuozuo was taken aback, staring at his solemn expression, and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
"There's been some internal problem at the company, and I'm worried someone might try to harm you. Listen to me, if I'm busy, I'll have the driver pick you up. Stay here tonight."
"Is it serious?" Yan Zuozuo asked worriedly, clutching his clothes tightly.
"I can handle it." Chi Moqing kissed her forehead. "From now on, even if I'm not there, I'll arrange for a driver to pick you up and drop you off at get off work. You're not allowed to refuse!"
"Can you really handle it?" Yan Zuozuo didn't complain about his domineering attitude; her mind was solely focused on the company issue he mentioned. She didn't care whether Chi's Group could be run successfully or make money; she was only worried about whether something might happen to him.
Chi Moqing chuckled and reached out to stroke her face. "You really have such low opinion of your husband's abilities?"
"That's not what I meant..." Yan Zuozuo pouted, looking at him with worried eyes, "Are you really okay?"
"Don't worry, it's not that serious."
Yan Zuozuo sighed softly and said helplessly, "Alright, go ahead and get busy."
Not long after, Chi Moqing left. Yan Zuozuo stood by the window, her eyes fixed on the direction he disappeared in. After watching for a while, she returned to the baby room, pinched their little faces, and muttered, "Your dad is like this, he carries everything on his own without explaining anything. Doesn't he know that makes me even more worried?"
She lay on the large bed in the nursery, a bed specifically reserved for baby caregivers. Although there was a nanny at home, it was mostly Chi's mother who took care of the baby. She always said that it's best to raise a child yourself and to stay with them all the time.
Yan Zuozuo stared intently at the ceiling, unsure if the situation was truly serious.
Suddenly, the phone rang. It was Chi Moqing calling. She was startled. She had only been gone a few minutes; could something have happened?
She quickly pressed the answer button and heard Chi Moqing's gentle voice coming from the other end, "I asked Mom to bring the milk into your room. You had low blood sugar last time, remember to drink it."
Yan Zuozuo was taken aback, not expecting him to have noticed even this. She nodded sullenly, then asked again, still worried, "Chi Moqing, tell me the truth, how serious is the situation at the company?"
Hearing Yan Zuozuo's angry question, Chi Moqing was taken aback. It turned out that his little wife also had a temper. He chuckled, "Silly girl, it's just an internal reorganization. There is some resistance, but it's not as serious as you think."
"Really?"
"When have I ever lied to you?" Chi Moqing smiled. "After you drink the milk, go to bed early, okay?"
"Okay, I'm not a three-year-old," Yan Zuozuo pouted and complained. She then said a few more words to Chi Moqing before hanging up.
