Chapter 138: FRIDA - 138
Chapter 138: FRIDA - 138
Frida’s pov:
"Perfect Teeth, Perfect Hair, Perfect stature...she will fetch a handsome price with such demeanor I’m not surprised we thought you were the princess" The Master Song said rubbing his beard.
"Your features are impeccable and worth a fortune." he acknowledged talking to some other few men in his presence.
"I will train her...this one will be capable of wooing dare I say even the emperor one day. With this face, my bets are never wrong." he sneered using his knife handle to lift my chin.
"But also it is a weakness, no offense Girlie, but you are too pretty." he said and she got confused.
He was praising my looks a second ago now he was belittling them.
"Prettiness can be a weapon when you are powerful enough, but right now you have no allies, no power, no wealth. It is a danger to you." His eyes lurked lazily around the faces of the men who were with him in the room, like they were a threat, instead of allies or friends.
"Sorry but how is my face a danger?" she asked as he sipped his drink.
"Pretty faces sell well, men will pay handsomely just so they can watch you cry and make you miserable because they are sadistic human beings. Some will even kill you or result to violence that will make you wish for death. I cannot tolerate such men!" he spat spitefully, stabbing his knife into the wooden table.
"The sad truth is being a woman in this empire will make you very vulnerable... The men here are animals ready to kill and eat you alive but under my protection I will gouge their eyes out and cut their tongues off and serve it to you." he said as they served another set of meals on the table "but I cannot protect you forever."
"The best thing is to be invisible, hold your breath like you are suffocating under water and wait for the right moment to spring forth. To come alive with backing of great caliber." He said as he took a bite of the bread. "Here eat some food." he said, pushing some across the table and she rushed the meal, like a hungry beast.
"To protect you won’t be easy, dare I say." He sighed and she understood.
He was surrounded by evil men and he was worried that they would hurt her.
So she picked up the knife from the table and cut off the length of her hair before him. "Then I shall live as a man....and I shall talk like a man and act like a man."
"For how long? will you get married as a man too and then you won’t be able to bear children." he grunted, taking a gulp of his drink. "Will you get drafted into war? They take men as young as fourteen."
"Do you know the weight of the path you have chosen?" he continued while chewing " You remind me of my daughter, very spirited and beautiful that’s why when I heard your voice I listened."
"I loved her with my life...and everything I had in me...but they took her away from me..." he dropped his bread and looked at the distant sky.
"They took my daughter away from me, Merlia. I have not seen her in eight years. Vanished, gone, not dead or alive...she was kidnapped by the enemy but even though I searched hard and long I never found her." he sniffed.
"So if this is the path you have chosen, I humbly support you...but... be careful, I just met you but I love you like a daughter even though I just met you and I cannot lose you too.
"Song I hope you are not filling her head with your fairy tales, she’s to become an assassin not a princess, if you want her to survive stop seeing her as a fragile girl and teach her how to survive."
She heard another man’s voice and everyone bowed, including her "Master Wind." The master song, greeted with respect.
"Long time no see friend, I see you have got yourself a pretty lass" he trailed off his gaze moving from her face to Master songs face "If you want her to live as an assassin you must treat her like one, how about I scar her pretty face so she will always be safe." She sucked in a horrified breath.
"Master Wind." A very familiar voice held a warning tone and she raised her head to see Laz’s face and froze in place.
How did he find her here, was he tailing her.
In this book he was going to be the death of her character. She thought she escaped him when she was beheaded, what rotten luck.
It’s like she is doomed to encounter him no matter how many times she dies.
"Do you find threatening the young and helpless an addition to your manhood?" Laz asked and the two masters bowed before Laz the seventh prince.
She was terrified, already remembering the feeling of the sword at her neck.
"Your highness." they simultaneously said and she bowed too realizing she held eye contact with him for too long.
"This one is fearless, you are right to worry. If she can look me in the eye, she won’t live very long." he said to the master song who sat up with the master wind as one of the men hurried and served tea.
She stood there like a pillar as they discussed, "The crown prince sent assassins after you?" Master Song asked.
"Are you sure your highness?" he asked again and Laz arched a brow at him.
"Are you insinuating that I’m laying false accusations on the crown prince?"
Master Song bowed "I wouldn’t dare."
"This one." he pointed at her "She’s young and useful, train her as a spy for me. I will make good use of her.
She knew it at that moment, her life was in Laz’s hands. She was so screwed.
His next words felt like a threat "We will be very good friends."
