Chapter 107 Pullman's Flattery
Chapter 107 Pullman's Flattery
Lunchtime is the busiest time for restaurants.
After Qi Yuan's restaurant gained a reputation, office workers, though unable to squeeze in for hot pot at that time, could still buy quick and easy dumplings.
To distinguish who was there to eat hot pot and who was there to buy dumplings, two long lines formed outside the restaurant.
With Qi Yuan's help, the dumplings sold much faster than before. Pot after pot of dumplings were packed into small cardboard boxes and taken away to be sold.
Qi Yuan's hands never stopped making dumplings. Just as everyone was busy, an employee rushed in.
"Boss, Sheriff Pullman needs to see you. He's coming in."
Just as the employee finished speaking, Pullman walked in with a smile.
This was the first time Pullman and Qi Yuan met.
Qi Yuan didn't understand why this federal sheriff wanted to find him, while Pullman's heart skipped a beat when he saw Qi Yuan's appearance.
Only three words came to his mind—"So beautiful."
With his jet-black, tousled hair and delicate, gentle features, he exudes an air of nobility despite being an orphan who spent five years in prison, as if he were a prince born to live in a magnificent palace.
Pullman immediately understood why Qi Yuan had become Noah's favorite male concubine; if he were Noah, he would have done the same.
"Mr. Qi Yuan, hello, I am Sergeant Pullman of the Federal Police Department."
He extended his hand to greet Qi Yuan in a friendly manner.
Qi Yuan looked at his hands, which were covered in flour, and wondered whether he should shake hands with the other person.
Pullman showed no sign of disdain and reached out to hold Qi Yuan's hand.
When they shook hands, Pullman was certain that the other person was a man. No matter how beautiful Qi Yuan was, his bones were larger than a woman's, and his hands were not as soft as a woman's. But perhaps because of the flour, they were still smooth.
Qi Yuan noticed that Pullman's gaze was strange, so he only shook hands symbolically before withdrawing his hand.
"Sheriff Pullman, what can I do for you?"
Qi Yuan didn't think his status warranted a sheriff coming to the kitchen to greet him personally. Even though the current Federal Police Department didn't have much power and was just a puppet of the four major families, Pullman's status was still much higher than that of many ordinary people.
“It’s like this,” Pullman said, revealing the real reason he was looking for Qi Yuan. “The police station just received a report that an hour ago, a man from out of town, Ogan, injured someone with a gun. Before the attack, this man had a two-hour meal at your restaurant. I’m here to ask about the situation.”
Qi Yuan's brows furrowed slightly.
It's really strange that he actually saw police officers handling a case.
However, that's how federal police officers are; even when the four major families kill people right in front of them, they act as if they haven't seen it.
But if someone from out of town punches someone, they immediately become partners of justice and stand up to arrest them.
Five years ago, Kalis was in the same situation.
Having just arrived in Juecheng, with little power and money, he ran over and killed the owner of a small shop in Juecheng with his car.
In situations like this, police officers usually listen to whoever pays the most.
Kalis didn't have much money, so in the end he asked Qi Yuan to go to jail for him and pay the other party a small amount of money, and that was the end of it.
Pullman's current situation is similar to Qi Yuan's back then; he has found an easy target to bully and is using his power everywhere.
Qi Yuan also remembered the red-haired Ogan and said, "I've been busy in the kitchen all day and haven't been to the front of house. I didn't know there was such a guest. Aubrey, you served that guest the dishes. You should tell Sheriff Pullman what he said."
Aubry was a little embarrassed. "Boss, if you ask me to say something, I don't know what to say either. That guy came in and started ordering. As soon as I brought the food, he started eating. I reminded him how long to cook the meat so that it would taste good, and he just told me to get lost and not disturb his meal. He was so arrogant!"
Pullman, upon hearing Aubrey's words, retorted, "These guys from outside are so unruly, daring to act so arrogantly in your restaurant. Mr. Qi Yuan, if I catch that guy, are you going to come to the police station to vent your anger?"
Pullman's words were subtly and overtly intended to curry favor with Qi Yuan.
Qi Yuan said, "No need. When you run a restaurant, you will occasionally encounter a few difficult customers. He just said something unpleasant. He is still a relatively good customer."
"Mr. Qi Yuan is truly kind."
Qi Yuan almost burst out laughing.
Is it considered kind to not go to the police station to beat someone up?
The definition of kindness in this world is really simple.
“But…” Pullman continued, “we still need to be careful of the other party. After all, he is carrying a gun, and we don’t know how many bullets are in his gun. You know, sometimes the number of bullets in a gun means how many people will die at the hands of the other party.”
"Does Sheriff Pullman think he'll come back to the restaurant?" Qi Yuan asked.
Pullman smiled. “I’m not the criminal, so I don’t know. But for the safety of the people of Juecheng, we will arrange more police officers to patrol the streets before arresting that guy. Mr. Qi Yuan, your restaurant is now the last shop to close in Juecheng, and your employees are also the last to go home, so I will arrange more police officers to patrol around your restaurant.”
Qi Yuan noticed the scrutinizing look in Pullman's eyes and knew that the other man was trying to win his favor, because in Pullman's eyes, pleasing him was the same as pleasing Noah.
Qi Yuan pretended not to understand and politely said, "Thank you, Sheriff Pullman. By the way, it's lunchtime now, and Sheriff Pullman probably hasn't had time to eat lunch yet. Take these dumplings to tide you over."
Pullman looked at the three boxes of dumplings and accepted them with a smile: "Thank you, Mr. Qi Yuan. My children and wife especially love the food in your restaurant, but unfortunately your restaurant is always so crowded that they can't get a table and have never been able to eat there."
“Sheriff Pullman can make an appointment. As long as you make an appointment, I will definitely have my staff reserve a table for you.”
"Okay okay."
Pullman grinned from ear to ear. He had thought that Qi Yuan would be arrogant and domineering because he had Noyard as a backer, but he never expected that the other party would be so easy to get along with.
He happily left the kitchen with three boxes of dumplings in his hand.
As soon as he left, everyone in the kitchen resumed their work. Aubrey came over and whispered, "Boss, that Ogan with the gun shouldn't be coming to our restaurant again, right?"
"The entire city's police are looking for him, how dare he come to our restaurant again?" Qi Yuan retorted.
"Our food is delicious! What if that guy eats this meal and thinks our restaurant's food is good, then sneaks back?"
“When he comes, treat him well. He ate well the first time he came, and he should eat well the second time he comes. Aubrey, the other party injured someone with a gun, not killed someone. Injuring someone may be for self-defense, not because he was shooting someone for no reason.”
