Chapter 575 Struggle
Chapter 575 Struggle
Griffith felt as if his head was hit hard by a heavy artillery shell. It exploded with a "boom", and after a blank, it was filled with chaos and terror.
Me, playing Blackwatch, seriously?
This thought was like the whisper of a devil, lingering in his mind.
Governor Goron sat on the gorgeous carved chair. He roughly understood Griffith's inner thoughts from his shocked expression, so he spoke to comfort him:
"Although this mission isn't within my territory, I will hire some well-known mercenary groups within Yoda. According to intelligence, there are only about 200 to 300 Black Watch mercenaries guarding the caravan. With this number, I can just hire a few more mercenary groups."
"And doing so will also benefit your mercenary group. Currently, no mercenary group dares to challenge the authority of Blackwatch. As long as you complete the mission, your mercenary group will surely become more famous."
Griffith returned to the residence arranged by Governor Goron in a daze. When someone saw Griffith coming back, they warmly invited him to dinner, but Griffith seemed not to hear them and turned a deaf ear to these greetings.
When he returned to his residence, he didn't even take off his armor, but fell headfirst onto the cot, as if all his strength had been drained away.
He lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. The memories that he originally didn't want to recall now flooded into his mind like a tide.
Part of it was guilt for leaving Blackwatch, and he thought back to his days in Blackwatch, the place he had once considered home.
He remembered the stern yet kind face of his instructor, and the deep friendship among his teammates. They sweated together on the training ground, fighting for honor and the future.
However, for his own ambition and so-called better development, he left the place that once gave him everything.
This feeling of guilt was like a heavy shackle, making it hard for him to breathe.
Another part was the fear of being targeted by Blackwatch, and this fear was stronger than the guilt, like a shadow in the darkness, tightly entangling him.
There has always been an unwritten rule in the mercenary world: if two mercenaries fight to the death on the battlefield, they must go their separate ways once the contract ends and are not allowed to retaliate afterwards.
If one side surrenders, the other side cannot continue to attack, otherwise its reputation will become bad in the mercenary world and no mercenary group will accept such mercenaries.
But it is obvious that Blackwatch will not buy this. Griffith is well aware of Blackwatch's power and tyranny, and they have the ability to break this rule.
From what he had learned, several fairly famous mercenary groups had disappeared after fighting with Blackwatch, as if these people had never existed at all, without any trace left.
Once he was targeted by Blackwatch, it would be impossible to escape unless he abandoned the mercenary group and changed his identity.
This fear was like an icy wind that blew through his bones and made him shudder.
He was suffering like this, time seemed to become extremely long, every minute and every second, his heart was struggling in pain.
It was not until the next morning that Griffith put on his armor and went out with a pair of bloodshot eyes.
The other mercenaries in the camp were already ready to go. Some of them were checking their weapons, some were tidying up their horses, and everyone had a nervous and expectant look on their face.
"Griffith, why didn't you sleep well?"
Jiedu asked after seeing Griffith like this. He also understood what a behemoth the enemy he was about to face was. Blackwatch looked down on other mercenary groups like nobles looked down on serfs. Let alone hundreds of people, most mercenary groups would not want to provoke even if they met one.
After leaving Dordorei, the group immediately headed west to the meeting point.
They walked along a rugged path, with barren fields on both sides. The fields were overgrown with weeds and there was no sign of life.
Soon they arrived at a small town surrounded by various tents.
The town looks very desolate, with dusty air in the air. The houses on both sides of the streets are dilapidated, and some have even collapsed.
However, there was a lot of noise coming from inside, and it seemed that there were quite a few mercenary teams gathered here.
When Griffith and the others arrived at the edge of the town, they were immediately surrounded by a group of mercenaries.
Rather than being mercenaries, Griffith saw them as more like a group of bandits and bullies, although for some people the two identities might be interchangeable.
These mercenaries wore a variety of clothes, some even only wore a worn leather armor covered with dirt and blood.
The greed and ill intentions in their eyes made it clear that these people were not good people.
Lifis even felt that a few people were looking at him with great interest, and their eyes were exactly the same as those of Governor Goron. A few others were staring at Casca, which made Casca, who had just joined, couldn't help but touch the scabbard with her hand.
After revealing their identities, the group left in disappointment, but they also stopped and watched from a distance, just like jackals following their prey.
When the group arrived in the town, they saw several corpses hanging on the trees. The corpses looked like they had died only a few days ago and were swaying gently in the breeze. Many flies were buzzing around them. The pale faces and twisted limbs made people shudder.
There were also several bodies thrown on the roadside, with black blood flowing around the bodies and having solidified into dark red blood clots.
At this moment, a heart-wrenching scream was heard, and a woman suddenly rushed out from a low wooden house. The door of the wooden house had long been rotten, and when she pushed it open, there was a sharp "click" sound.
"Help...help!"
The sound squeezed out of her throat was hoarse as if it had been rubbed with sandpaper. A scream with a tearful tone swirled in her throat, but because of extreme fear, the tone changed and turned into an almost beast-like wail.
However, just as she was about to rush to the center of the street, a black arrow broke through the air from the rooftop fifty steps away!
“Whoosh—Puff!”
With a creepy muffled sound, the arrow penetrated deeply into her head. The woman's body suddenly stiffened, all movements froze in an instant, and her screams stopped abruptly, replaced by a strange "gurgling" sound, as if something was stuck in her throat, or something was wriggling in her throat.
Her eyes widened instantly, her pupils dilated to the extreme, the whites of her eyes covered with spider-web-like bloodshot, her mouth wide open, but no sound came out, only that creepy "cluck" sound.
"boom!"
Finally, the woman's body fell heavily to the ground like a worn-out sack of grain.
“Hahaha…so cool!”
A mercenary with a face full of flesh walked out of the house with his trousers held up. He was shirtless with only a dirty piece of cloth around his waist. His lower body was still wet, obviously he had just done a "good deed".
There was a hideous smile on his face, saliva hanging from the corners of his mouth, and a perverted gleam in his eyes.
He kicked the wine bottle at his feet, and the bottle rolled to the woman's body, splashing a few drops of residual wine.
Then he squatted down, grabbed the woman's hair with his rough hands, and dragged the still warm body into the house like a dead dog.
"Bitch! I told you to run!"
As he dragged the woman's body, he cursed at her, his voice rough and obscene, with a kind of morbid excitement.
"Run, why don't you run anymore? Weren't you running fast just now?"
The woman's body rubbed against the rough stone road, making a rustling sound. Her hair was torn off one by one and scattered on the road. Her head left a long bloody trail on the ground, like a winding river of blood.
"Hey! Lao Hei! Did you kill someone again?"
In the distance, a tall and thin mercenary, holding a pipe in his mouth, leaned lazily against the wall, watching the scene with an expression of disgust on his face.
"none of your business!"
The mercenary known as "Old Black" shouted without turning his head, his voice filled with impatience and irritability.
"I was the one who fell in love with this bitch first!"
He dragged the woman's body into the house and slammed the door.
The other mercenaries on the street seemed to be accustomed to this. Only the mercenaries behind Griffith, such as Jiedu, Gorkas, and Bibin, who had followed him the longest, had ashen faces and eyes flashing with anger and shock.
"These scumbags!"
"You're worse than beasts."
"Are all mercenaries so perverted now?"
Although Griffith felt a little uncomfortable, it didn't matter to him after seeing it so many times. The character of these mercenaries was another matter, the most important thing was to complete the mission first.
